As Expected San Diego Comic-Con 2020 Is Officially Cancelled!

For the first time in its 50-year history San Diego Comic Convention (SDCC), the organizers behind the annual pop-culture celebration, announced today with deep regret that there will be no Comic-Con in 2020. The event will instead return to the San Diego Convention Center from July 22-25, 2021. Recognizing that countless attendees save and plan for its conventions each year, and how many exhibitors and stakeholders rely upon its events for a major portion of their livelihood, they had hoped to delay this decision in anticipation that COVID-19 concerns might lessen by summer. Continuous monitoring of health advisories and recent statements by the Governor of California have made it clear that it would not be safe to move forward with plans for this year. Similarly, WonderCon Anaheim, which was to have been held April 10-12, 2020 will return to the Anaheim Convention Center from March 26-28, 2021. In addition to their conventions, Comic-Con has been planning a major renovation of Balboa Park’s Federal Building to be completed for the grand opening of the Comic-Con Museum in the summer of 2021. …

Announcement From San Diego Comic Con Coming Shortly Regarding 2020 Convention

It looks like the answer regarding San Diego Comic Con 2020 will be coming soon as news has been posted revealing that the organizers of the massive pop culture convention are weighing out various “financial liabilities” if they decide to move forward with a cancellation due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Things are not looking promising for this year’s SDCC to go on as scheduled as it would be nearly impossible for the organizers to find a way to maintain safe and effective social distancing protocols due to the sheer number of attendees which each year tops over 135,000. Anyone who has ever been to SDCC can certainly attest to the fact that you are literally shoulder to shoulder with other fans over the course of the five-day event, which even spills outside of the convention center and into San Diego’s historic Gaslamp District. As devout fans of SDCC, it certainly breaks our heart to hear about a possible cancellation, however it should also be noted that sources go to say that the organizers are possibly looking into some sort …

The announcement of WonderCon 2020s’ cancellation is just one more large scale pop culture event to be added to the ever-growing list of convention and concert cancellations due to COVID-19. However, don’t pack up your cosplay and sunglasses just yet, as we have yet to hear any news about San Diego Comic-Con being postponed. In a statement, WonderCon organizers said: To protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19, the California Department of Public Health announced a recommendation that gatherings and events of more than 250 people should either be postponed or cancelled. Comic-Con (organizer of WonderCon) will abide by this recommendation. Therefore WonderCon Anaheim, scheduled for April 10-12, 2020 in …
