Claymont– The Delaware State Police have arrested 18 year-old Gregory Wing of Wilmington on weapons charges after being located inside of a stolen vehicle.
On September 16, 2020, at approximately 12:45 a.m., the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force (GTF) conducted proactive patrols in the area of North Wilmington. Unit members observed a brown Nissan Altima enter the parking lot of Wawa located at 2621 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. The suspect parked at the gas pump and the operator entered the store. A computer check of the registration revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen. Unit members conducted surveillance on the vehicle and waited for the driver to return. Once the driver returned to the vehicle, GTF members approached the suspect who subsequently fled on foot. After a short foot chase, the suspect was successfully taken into custody. While being placed into handcuffs, a firearm fell out of the suspect’s waist band.
The suspect was identified as Gregory Wing. The discovered firearm was a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun which also had been reported stolen. The firearm was loaded with 10 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber of the weapon.
Wing was transported to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
- Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony)
- Receiving Stolen Property Value Over $1500 (Felony)
- Resisting Arrest
Wing was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $30,500.00 secured bond.
