Troopers Arrest Georgetown Man For Aggravated Menacing-Milton

Milton- The Delaware State Police arrested 27-year-old DEVANTE J. WILLIAMS for aggravated menacing and related chargers after he discharged a firearm several times.

The incident occurred on June 11, 2020, at approximately 5:20 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to Springside Drive, Milton, for several reports of shots being fired.  Upon arrival, Troopers learned that a subject, possibly Devante Williams, had left the scene in a silver Volkswagen Jetta.  Troopers located the Jetta in a driveway on West Springside Drive.  Contact was made with the operator, Williams, when an odor of alcohol and marijuana were detected and a DUI investigation ensued.  Troopers observed several spent shotgun shell casings on the ground in close proximity to Williams’s vehicle.

Further investigation into this incident revealed that Williams had responded to an acquaintance’s residence on Springside Drive.  Williams entered the residence and appeared to be intoxicated, when he pointed a gun at the 55-year-old male victim.  The victim told Williams to get out of his residence, and when he did, Williams fired several rounds outside.  The victim nor his residence were struck.  A computer inquiry revealed that Williams is a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Williams was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm If Previously Convicted of A Violent Felony
  • Aggravated Menacing
  • Reckless Endanger First Degree
  • Possession of a Firearm while under the influence
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of a Combination of Alcohol and Any Drug

Williams was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $94500.00 cash only bond.
